Blanket of white coats DC in first snowfall of season

Thick snow and sleet fall in Washington DC Thursday, coating roads and causing issues for some commuters.

The Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination noted several traffic incidents across the region, according the The Washington Post.

DC wasn't the only affected community as snow struck large swathes of the East Coast on Thursday. Philadelphia, Boston and New York City were all similarly affected.

Winter storm alerts have been issued for parts of the Midwest and Northeast as residents prepare to face Winter Storm Avery.
