Brookfield Zoo to Reopen After Coronavirus Shutdown

Brookfield Zoo, outside Chicago, was set to reopen on Wednesday, July 1, following a shutdown of more than three months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Video from the zoo shows three-month-old Amur leopard cub Sasha, who was born on March 3 and introduced to the public via social media during the lockdown.

The Amur leopard is a critically endangered species with less than 65 animals left in the wild, the zoo said. Threats to the species include poaching, loss of habitat due to logging and human settlement, and loss of prey.
