California Firefighters Battle 1,700 Acre Wildfire

The Lowell Fire in Nevada County, California, stood at 1,700 acres and was 20 percent contained as of Monday morning, July 27. Mandatory evacuations were in place for the area, as the fire threatened some 1,800 structures. Four firefighters were injured while fighting the wildfire, according to the incident report.

One of the four firefighters remains in the hospital with serious burns, and the other three are expected to return to active service soon.

The fire blew smoke into the Reno area, but a change in the weather was expected to clear it from the city, according to local reports.
