California National Guard Assists in Fight Against Rocky Fire

The Rocky Fire in northern California grew to 47,000 acres by the morning of August 2, according to CalFire. More than 6,000 structures are threatened by the wildfire, which remains at 5 percent contained.

The California Army National Guard is among the agencies helping with the fight against the Rocky Fire. This video shows guardsmen using a helicopter in the battle against the fire.

Twenty-four homes have been destroyed by the fire. Mandatory evacuations are in effect, impacting more than 12,000 people. The major thoroughfare Highway 20 is closed, though the fire has not crossed the road, which officials have been concerned may happen. Credit: California Army National Guard
