California teen kills his father, his father’s fiancee and his 8-year-old step-brother

California teen Nolan Buchanan was charged with murder on Thursday for the killing of his father, his father’s fiancee and his 8-year-old step-brother, CBS News reported. Adam Buchanan and his family went missing on September 11 when they went to spend the weekend in their cabin in El Dorado County. Two days later the cabin was found burning, and their remains were found inside. According to ABC News, the destruction was so extensive that the identification of the bodies was only possible this week.Investigators traveled to the Buchanan’s house in Benicia and found Adam Buchanan’s 16-year-old son, Nolan, who told them he had decided to stay home that weekend. Days later, investigators searched the house and Buchanan’s construction business, as well as a white Ford F-150 truck.A purse belonging to Adam Buchanan’s fiancee and Adam Buchanan’s wallet, together with a rifle and ammunition, were found at a Benicia business park near Buchanan’s business, ABC News reported.According to investigators, Nolan Buchanan had stayed behind but then drove the truck to the cabin, shot the family dead, burned the cabin and returned to Benicia.The 16-year-old was arrested on Thursday and charged as an adult for the three murders. According to ABC News, it is unclear what the maximum penalty could be as the law is in a state of flux regarding sentencing for juvenile offenders tried as adults.
