Cape town residents shutdown roads in protest against gang crime

People took to the streets in Cape Town to protest a surge in gang crime in the South African capital.

Footage captured today shows protesters shutting down roads in the neighbourhood of Athlone.

''People want to have a daily life in peace. Children must go to school peacefully,’’ says one of the protesters in the video.

Eight people have been arrested for public violence during the protests, local media reported.
