Croatia and Serbia mark the 20th anniversary of Operation Storm

Croatia marked the 20th anniversary of Operation Storm on Tuesday, the decisive battle to reclaim a swathe of territory from Serb separatists and force Serbia into peace negotiations. The Croatian President Grabar Kitarovic attended a military parade in the capital Zagreb. August 5 in Croatia is marked as Victory and Homeland Day and is celebrated accordingly. In Serbia however it was a different story. Over 1800 Serbs were either killed or listed as missing as a result of the attack and hundreds of thousands of Serbs were driven out of the region. A memorial service at the Sremska Raca bridge on the border with Croatia was attended by the President of the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, and the Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic. The two leaders dropped wreaths in to the river in memory of the victims.
