Crowd at Trump Rally Chants 'Send Her Back' as President Slates Ilhan Omar

US President Donald Trump continued his criticism of four female Democratic politicians know as “the Squad” at a rally in Greenville, North Carolina, on Wednesday, July 17.

The crowd at the rally began chanting “send her back” when Trump spoke of Ilhan Omar’s “contempt” for “the hard-working American” and her history of “anti-Semitic screeds”.

Omar, who was born in Somalia, is one of four newly elected Democratic congresswomen to repeatedly clash with the president. The other three members of “the Squad” are Reps Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib.

On July 14, Trump tweeted that the four should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,” despite the fact that Ocasio-Cortez, Pressley and Tlaib were all born in the US.

The House of Representatives passed a resolution to “strongly condemn President Donald Trump’s racist comments that have legitimized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color.” Trump responded on Twitter to say he hadn’t a “racist bone” in his body.
