The 45-year-old Texas Senator clinched 28% of the Republican vote, beating his flamboyant rival Donald Trump into second place. “Iowa has sent notice that the Republican nominee and the next president of the US will not be chosed by the media, will not be chosen by the Washington elite,” Cruz told his supporters. Speaking to the media, Trump said he was “honoured” by his second-place finish.
