Deadly car bomb in Kenya capital

At least four people were killed in Nairobi when a car bomb exploded outside a police station. Police officers had stopped the car at traffic lights and were taking the occupants for questioning when the bomb exploded. A second controlled explosion was then carried out by bomb disposal officers. Locals are increasingly alarmed at how easy militants and radicalised youths are able to carry out deadly strikes in the heart of Kenya. The blasts happened in Nairobi’s Eastleigh district, populated by Somalis and targeted in past bomb and grenade attacks. It was not immediately clear who was behind Wednesday’s attack. Last month the Kenyan president said the country’s vital tourist industry was “on its knees” after attacks by al Qaeda linked insurgents in retaliation for Kenya’s troop deployment in neighbouring Somalia.
