Dogs Up for Adoption Evacuated to San Diego Ahead of Hurricane Delta

San Diego animal care agencies worked together to evacuate 90 adoptable dogs from Louisiana on Thursday, October 8, before Hurricane Delta’s expected landfall on Friday.

This footage shows San Diego County Animal Services receiving the dogs ahead of the storm. The San Diego Humane Society also helped to evacuate and care for the refugee pups. The animals were flown aboard a plane operated by Wings of Rescue, a nationwide nonprofit pet welfare group.

“Once cleared and assessed, the dogs will be made available for adoption,” San Diego County wrote on Twitter.

As of Friday afternoon, Hurricane Delta was Category 2, with 105 mph winds. It was moving north-northeast at 14 mph. The coast from Beaumont, Texas, to Morgan City, Louisiana, was under a hurricane warning. Areas to the east, north, and west were under tropical storm warnings.
