‘Don’t move’: video shows advice to South Korea ferry passengers

Dramatic amateur video has emerged from on board the stricken South Korean ferry before it capsized. Filmed on a mobile device, it shows the reaction of passengers as the drama unfolded. An announcement can be heard in the background coming over the tannoy. The passengers are told to stay put. “Don’t move from where you are now. Don’t move because it’s dangerous if you move,” the voice says. Donning lifejackets, those on board did what they were told. They can be seen in the video, lying and sitting on the floor. Later there was panic when the ferry tilted over. Some survivors have said people could have been rescued had the ship been evacuated. The role of the ship’s captain, being interviewed by police, is under scrutiny.
