Exhumations at suspected Serbia mass grave begin

Forensic experts from Serbia, Kosovo and Bosnia have begun excavation of a suspected mass grave in Serbia. It’s believed to contain at least 250 bodies of ethnic Albanians killed during the 1998-1999 Kosovo war. The site is in Rudnica village near Serbia’s border with Kosovo. The Serbian government official dealing with the wartime missing, Veljko Odalovic, explained about the painstaking task: “The location is technically ready and until we have searched the location completely we will not stop,” said Odalovic. “We will work on weekends also. The whole process will take around 60 days,” added the head of the Serbian Government Missing Persons Commission. Some 10,000 people were killed during the conflict between Serbian security troops and Kosovo separatists. Hundreds of bodies were transferred to central Serbia to hide evidence of atrocities.
