Firefighters Battle 78,000-Acre CZU Lightning Complex Wildfires

Fire officials in California are continuing to battle a complex of wildfires in southern San Mateo County and northern Santa Cruz County, which grew to over 78,000 acres by Monday, August 24, reports said.

The CZU Lightning Complex wildfires began August 17 and have since encompassed 78,684 acres. They were 13 percent contained as of Monday evening.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said that the fire had claimed one life and damaged 12 structures. Approximately 77,000 people have been evacuated from their homes. Credit: Cal Fire CZU via Storyful
