Firefighters Work to Douse Wildfire in Northern Spain

Firefighters worked to extinguish a fire burning near the town of Lerga, one of several impacting Spain’s northern Navarre region, local news said on June 20.

A heatwave last week sparked multiple wildfires that burned tens of thousands of hectares across Navarre, Catalonia, and Castile and Leon.

Local news reports said more than 30,000 hectares of land had been burned in the Sierra de la Culebra mountain range, making it the largest fire of the century. Credit: Military Emergency Unit via Storyful
