First Known Albino Slow Loris Released Back Into the Wild
An albino Sumatran slow loris has been returned to the wild after being rescued by International Animal Rescue (IAR) from a life of captivity.
The nocturnal primate had been taken from the wild and kept as a pet before its rescue on August 31. The loris, a male, was cared for until its release into the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park in Lampung Province, Sumatra. The loris was fitted with a special radio collar to help a specialized team track its progress in its natural habitat.
The program director of IAR Indonesia, Karmele Llano Sanchez, said: “This is the first known albino loris in the world and, therefore, extremely rare. Thankfully, we are able to give this animal another chance to live and thrive in the wild where it belongs.” Credit: International Animal Rescue via Storyful
