Heavy Snow Causes Whiteout, Hazardous Road Conditions Near Tahoe

More than two feet of snow fell in the Sierra Nevada on January 16 and 17, causing whiteout conditions and road closures in Truckee, according to the California Highway Patrol.

On Thursday, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued a winter storm warning in expectation of three to six feet of snow and winds gusts of 100 miles per hour. The heavy snow has been a boon for local ski resorts but has frozen travel. Police closed Interstate 80 Westbound after slick roads triggered crashes.
