Iraqi migrants land in Erbil after Belarus evacuation

An 11-year-old girl living in Zakho, Malak Hassan, showed her injured hands as she described the cold and the snow she and her family had to endure while they were stuck at the border.

“I am really happy because I can go home”, she said.

Around 600 Iraqi citizens returned to Iraq on Friday on two separate planes that were allocated to carry out the evacuation of migrants stranded between the Belarusian and Polish border, Iraq’s ministry of transport said in a statement.

Another exceptional flight had been carried out on November 18, bringing the total number of Iraqis who boarded evacuation flights to 1,038 citizens, the statement added.
