Keepers on Alligator Watch as 'Wall of Water' Hits Reptile Park North of Sydney

Amid heavy rain, a “wall of water” hit a reptile park north of Sydney on January 17, leading to levels of flooding not seen, the park said, for 15 years and forcing its closure.

Footage from the Australian Reptile Park, on the Central Coast of New South Wales, shows the dramatic deluge that hit the park.

The park said staff were stationed at the Alligator Lagoon to monitor the water levels, which were rising beyond the fence line. One zookeeper in the video is seen using a broom to keep an alligator back.

“We’re very thankful for our amazing, quick thinking staff for helping keep things under control and our animals dry,” the park said on Facebook. Credit: Australian Reptile Park via Storyful
