Lexington Police Assess Damage After Dam Breach

The Lexington Police Department assessed damage near Old Mill Pond, Gibson Pond, and Barr Lake on October 6 with a drone after flooding hit the region. Historic rainfall in South Carolina led to widespread flooding that still has much of the state under water. The Old Mill Pond dam breached during the rain, which contributed to the flooding in Lexington.

At least 16 inches of rain fell in South Carolina’s Midland, which includes the capital city of Columbia, on October 4, according to local media. The Lowland, which includes Charleston, saw about two feet of rain during several days of the deluge. The flooding and dam breaches prompted evacuations and, in some cases, rescues.
