Mesquite Heat Fire Spreads to 1,500 Acres in Texas

The Mesquite Heat Fire in central Texas spread to 1,500 acres (2.3 square miles) and was 10 percent contained, officials said on May 18.

Local media cited a Texas A&M official who said the fire began along US Highway 277 near the town of View on May 17. The cause has not yet been determined.

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office issued an evacuation order to residents living on White Mines Road and on Braune Road. At the time of writing, they said they do not have any plans to lift the evacuation order.
