Oklahoma City Dive Team Searches Floodwaters for Missing Person

Divers from the Oklahoma City Fire Department (OKCFD) continued search efforts on Wednesday, September 2, in the Ski Island Lake area, for a missing man whose vehicle was overtaken by floodwaters on the night of Monday, August 31, reports said.

The OKCFD said their crews responded on Monday, using “boats with sonar equipment, drones, and spotters on shore,” but were unable to locate the man, who was reported to be in his 50s and visiting family in the area.

“Arriving firefighters discovered a fully submerged vehicle on a roadway in the neighborhood that has a history of flooding during heavy rain,” the fire department said in a Facebook post. “The water spills over the roadway at this location and floods. The fully submerged vehicle was forced against a guardrail on the road by the rushing water. Arriving firefighters were told that a person had been on top of the vehicle but was now gone. Firefighters began a search of the entire area which continues this morning.”

The OKCFD posted video of divers searching the lake on Tuesday, saying, “We are hopeful to locate the victim as there is a family hurting this morning as the search continues. Our hearts go out to them today.” Credit: Oklahoma City Fire Department via Storyful
