Orphaned bear cubs grow up near India-Pakistan border
These twin bear cubs are being raised in disputed Kashmir
Location: Dawarian, Kashmir
Sharda and Narda were spotted in the Himalayan region
where India and Pakistan have been fighting over for decades
(SOUNDBITE) (Urdu) ASSISTANT WARDEN OF FISHERIES FOR ATHMUQAM, MOHAMMAD ASHRAF, SAYING:
"Last year, in the month of April, some shepherds informed us -- from those mountains that you see there, around 14,000 feet high -- that some women who had gone out to graze their animals had heard sounds and spotted some small animals. We rescued the bear cubs from there. At that time they were tiny, exactly like little kittens, and could hardly open their eyes."
The Asiatic bears are now being raised on the Pakistani side
India built a fence to stop people from crossing
but it has also made it hard for wildlife to move freely
