Pope Welcomed by Thousands of Followers in Quito

Pope Francis touched down in Quito, Ecuador, on Sunday to start his eight-day tour through three of South America’s poorest countries. In addition to Ecuador, Francis will visit Bolivia and Paraguay. Following a ceremony at the airport, the pope traveled to the Vatican ambassador’s residence, where he will be staying, and was greeted by thousands who lined the streets. It is Francis’ first visit to his home continent since he was elected pope.
