Premature Twins Evacuated From US Military Base in South Korea

Premature newborn twins Parker and Laine were evacuated from the Osan American Air Force Base in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, on March 30, and sent to Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland for treatment.

The babies had been in intensive care in South Korea since they were born and had next to zero exposure to COVID-19, said Colonel Joseph Hudak. Their parents were placed in quarantine and tested negative for the disease, he said. Due to their condition the twins were in need of further neonatal intensive care and the family was moved back to the United States.

“We have a family that’s in need of some care that’s not readily available here in Korea. We have to move them across to the other side of the world and this is truly a joint effort. This is an Air Force critical care team moving an Army family to a Navy hospital, and we’re doing it seamlessly in the middle of a pandemic,” said Colonel Hudak.
