Reno Woman Gifted Puppy After Stolen Dog Reunited With Owner

Little Dude, a German shepherd puppy, was reunited with his owner, Kate Mann, weeks after being stolen. But that meant heartbreak for new owner Karen, who’d bought the pup without knowing of the crime.

However, a twist in the tale left both women happy.

Little Dude was stolen from Mann’s vehicle on October 18, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department said. Mann obtained surveillance photos of the suspects from the convenience store she was parked outside and filed a report with the department on October 22.

After tracking down and arresting the suspects, the deputies discovered the dog had been sold to Reno woman Karen Murphy. Murphy willingly gave up the pup, police said. But Mann wanted to ensure that her gain was not Murphy’s loss. She knew that Little Dude had a sister, so she contacted the breeder and, as an act of kindness, bought that puppy for Murphy.

“Tails wagged, a few tears were shed, and there were hugs all around when Kate, Karen, Little Dude, and Little Dude’s sister all met up outside the Sheriff’s Office,” the sheriff’s department said. Credit: Washoe County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
