Rescue Dog 'Adopts' Kittens After Losing Her Own Litter

An Australian Shepherd mix named Georgia became the unlikely adoptive mother of three kittens after she lost her own litter of puppies.

Rescuers with Sunshine Dog Rescue in Phoenix, Arizona, found Georgia abandoned at a gas station near Rocky Point and quickly realized she was pregnant.

The rescue’s executive director Anita Osa said that Georgia was “heartbroken” after waking up from her emergency C-section and was searching frantically for her puppies, all of whom had died during premature labor.

“She definitely appeared depressed,” Osa said in a report. “But even more so, she was frantic.”

Osa put out a call on Facebook for help, asking for any animals in need of a lactating mother dog. One response was for three newborn kittens in need of a mother.

All four were adopted, Osa said. Georgia and one of her kittens were adopted by roommates, so that the adopted mother will remain close to one of her babies. Credit: Anita Osa & Sunshine Dog Rescue via Storyful
