Rescued Flying Fox Munches Banana as Carers Work to Relieve Heat-Stressed Animals

A flying fox was rescued in Rochedale South, Queensland, as high temperatures across the country caused many of the animals to become disoriented from heat stress.

In this video, filmed by carer Denise Wade, the rescued flying fox, named Master Cecil, stuffs his cheeks with chunks of banana.

“We are in the middle of summer and our weather is hot,” Wade told Storyful.

“When the temperature becomes extreme and there is the very real danger that bats will die from heat stroke we hose them and their surrounds with water in an effort to decrease their temperature and to also provide a drink which will hopefully save them,” she said.

Bananas are a favourite among bats, Wade said.
