Satellite Captures Hurricane Michael Landfall on Florida Panhandle

Hurricane Michael slammed ashore near Mexico Beach, Florida, Wednesday afternoon, October 10, as the most powerful storm to hit the US coast since Hurricane Camille in 1969.

Michael’s top winds were 155mph, just shy of the mark for Category 5 status, but the storm’s pressure at landfall was lower than Hurricanes Katrina and Andrew, beaten only by Camille and the unnamed 1935 Labor Day hurricane. Credit: NOAA/CIRA/RAMMB via Storyful
