Smashed That One: Phone Bears Brunt of California Batter's Miscue

Try not to flinch. A phone set up behind home plate to record a softball practice in the Sacramento area was unceremoniously beaned on June 13 after batter Eric Mayol tapped a ball thrown by his friend Cristian Selanis.

Mayol told Storyful that Selanis had been throwing wild pitches, and Mayol began to worry he would be hit. He took a step to the side to avoid the ball, but at the last second decided to swing. “I tipped it, and it somehow hit the phone right where the camera is, but there was no damage,” Mayol said.
