Emergency warnings were in place for parts of northern New South Wales on October 8 as the Rural Fire Service reported 46 wildfires were burning.

Authorities reported some fires were spreading quickly. They warned residents in the path of the Busby Flat Road Fire to seek shelter, saying they were “at risk.”
An out-of-control bushfire was also burning near Tenterfield, threatening homes, according to news reports.
