Solano County Woman Frantically Searches for Animals as LNU Lightning Complex Fire Engulfs Ranch

A dog trainer and rancher from Solano County shared emotional footage of herself searching for animals at her family’s ranch as an LNU Lightning Complex fire burned all around her on August 19.

The video, shared by Christa Petrillo Haefner, shows flames engulfing the ranch as she frantically calls out for her horses.

According to an interview with Good Day Sacramento, Haefner lost “nearly everything” in the fire.

“The embers were coming in sideways and everything was catching around us,” she said. “It came in hot. It came in fast. We tried to fight it, but there was no fighting it.”

COVID affected my business and I was just starting to come back. Now I have nothing,” Haefner added.

Dozens of animals, including baby goats and horses, did not survive the blaze, but some did.

Goats and pigs that Haefner wasn’t able to evacuate were still alive when she returned to the ranch after sunup, and she gave them their first meal since the fire started, Good Day Sacramento reported. Credit: Christa Petrillo Haefner via Storyful
