The Tonbari family of Syrian refugees arrive in Canada

Ibrahim Tonbari and his family are starting a new life in Canada. He escaped from the war-torn city of Homs in Syria to neighbouring Lebanon with his wife Zaineb and four children. They were granted permanent Canadian residence as part of the country’s programme to settle 25,000 refugees from Lebanon and Jordan. “Out of the 25,000, I’d say there will be at least 9,000 who will come to Quebec and that about 80 percent of will come to Montreal,” Denis Coderre, Montreal’s Mayor told euronews. “As a main city in Quebec, Montreal can accommodate … we have 1.8 million inhabitants, so it’s something we’re used to .. not only in terms of refugees but in terms of newcomers, so we will fully play our role.” The Canadian government has contracted the International Organization of Migration to organise the new arrivals. Each person receives the coveted document containing permanent residence in Canada. The Tonbari family are #SyrianRefugees moving to Windsor, Ont.
