Turkish journalists rally over colleagues kidnapped in Syria

Hundreds of journalists in Turkey have been protesting in Istanbul to call for the release of a newspaper reporter kidnapped in Syria. Bunyamin Aygun, who works for Miliyet, went missing after interviewing an opposition military leader in late November last year. He is one of around 30 journalists who have disappeared in the country and protesters want their government to do more to secure their freedom. “There is no safety in Syria. Nobody can guarantee our security,” said demonstrator Can Ertuna. With around 70 journalists killed in 2013, Syria remains the world’s most deadly place for the press for the second successive year, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
