Ukraine Firefighters Subdue Seven Out of Nine Wildfire Cells in Luhansk Region

In a press release on October 5, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine announced firefighters had extinguished wildfires in seven out of the nine active cells in the Luhansk Region and contained one.

At least 11 people were killed and 19 were injured in fires that spanned over 49,000 acres, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said.

Local news reports said authorities were investigating “shelling from a nearby area controlled by the invaders,” arson, weather events, and “careless handling of fire” as possible causes for the wildfires. Credit: ДСНС України (State Emergency Service of Ukraine) via Storyful
