US shootings: colleagues remember

A day after their news crew was shot dead live on air, presenters at a US local TV station were back on screen with memories, tears and a determination to carry on. 24-year-old Alison Parker and 27-year-old Adam Ward were gunned down during an interview by disgruntled former colleague Vester Flanagan. He later died from gunshot wounds. The two colleagues worked closely together. The gun control debate Alison Parker’s father Andy says the time has come for tighter controls on firearms: “The politicians have got to stand up to the NRA and close some of these loopholes so that crazy people don’t get guns. I am sure that the reaction from some of these wing nuts is going to be, ‘well, you know, if she had a handgun with her, this would never have happened’. She could have had an AK-47 strapped around her waist, she could not have seen this coming. There are just too many guns in the hands of crazy people.” Locals brought flowers and food to the WDBJ7 studio. Tributes have been piling up at the scene of the shooting. A prayer vigil has been held for the woman being interviewed, who is seriously injured in hospital.
