Vigil honours beating-death victim Clarence Ross

A vigil was held Friday night at the location where Clarence Ross was gravely injured in an assault. Ross' death is Winnipeg's 15th homicide.

Family and friends of homicide victim Clarence Ross gathered at the place where he was attacked and honoured his memory in a vigil Friday night.

Ross was found gravely injured behind a grocery store near Sargent Street early Thursday morning.

According to police, Ross encountered two people shortly after midnight in the area of Maryland Street and Sargent Avenue. He was assaulted in the upper body and the attackers then fled the scene.

Police said Ross, 31, was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he died.

Police said two people — a man and a woman — were arrested the same morning and charged with second-degree murder in relation to Ross' death.

At the Friday night vigil his sister, Diana Ross, said there is too much violence in the city.

Ross is Winnipeg's 15th homicide victim of 2012.
