Vigil at University of Manitoba remembers victims of attacks around the world

Dozens gathered at the University of Manitoba on Wednesday night to remember those who have died in deadly attacks around the world in recent weeks, including the attacks in Paris earlier this month.

People gathered for speeches by student leaders and observed a moment of silence during the candlelight vigil, which was organized by Amnesty International's University of Manitoba chapter.

"I'm of the opinion that an attack on somebody or a person is an attack on the whole humanity itself," said chapter chairperson Imreet Kaur.

"If your human rights are being violated in one part of the country, you are not safe even in a country like Canada, and this could happen to anybody. So this shows us that, you know, we as humans are united against this."

Kaur said she wants to raise awareness about the importance of supporting and welcoming in refugees.
