Viral video captures perfect way to troll annoying acoustic guitar players

No one likes the guy who plays acoustic versions of songs we’ve heard a million times at any chance he gets. Absolutely no one. (Seriously, don’t be that guy.)

So in a “prank” video, YouTuber Chris Melberger had a bit of fun with the concept by playing a guy who bursts into the opening lines of Green Day’s ’90s classic “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)” every time his friend, played by Snake Rogers, starts strumming.

The video, while uploaded to YouTube in early November with the title “guitar prank on my friend,” is actually one of the many of the short sketches Melberger films for the web. A shorter version of the video also appeared days later on the soon-to-be-shuttered social network Vine.

The video was filmed in less than an hour and eagle-eyed viewers who might’ve been fooled by its title might’ve realized it was staged as Rogers was wearing the same outfit throughout. That’s if playing guitar on the toilet with door unlocked didn’t throw up enough red flags.

Melberger says, however, the idea behind the video did come from a real-life experience.

“The concept for the video occurred when my friend would start jamming on his guitar and I would randomly sing the wrong song,” he told Daily Dot in an email.

The video was one of several pranks Melberger uploaded to the web, many of which appeared as short-form videos on Vine. As one of the social media site’s top stars, Melburger has uploaded a collection of his top vines, including some pranks, on YouTube ahead of Vine’s official closure on Tuesday.
