Pumpkins, squash, gourds, straw bales, corn mazes … it’s time to celebrate autumn by visiting the nearest pumpkin farm! Head out early in the season to get the best pumpkin of your choice for your family to carve, bake or use as porch decor.
Here are three of the best pumpkin farms in the Ottawa Valley:
FERRIER’S SCOTCH LINE FARM
They weren’t kidding when their website stated they have the biggest pumpkins in the Ottawa Valley! Huge white and orange pumpkins, gourds, squash, straw bales, pumpkin pies and fall decor are all available in this family-owned and operated farm near Perth. They have a corn maze, cute photo props, a pumpkin patch, and bins and bins of different varieties of pumpkins. They also sell ground beef and sausages. Bring your kids to this family-friendly farm!
Ferrier’s Scotch Line Farm is located at 2579 Scotch Line Rd., Perth. The farm is open Thursday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit www.scotchlinefarm.com or call 613-267-5330.
HUGLI’S BLUEBERRY FARM
No, they’re not just a blueberry farm. Hugli’s offers socially distanced tractor rides to their pumpkin patch, as well as a chance to see fall foliage in their forest trail. Their corn maze is open, there are farm animals to visit, and their huge country store has everything — from fall decor and pumpkins, to house-made blueberry jams, sauces, pies, ice cream and fudge. Oh, and did I mention they have apple fudge and maple fudge doughnuts?
Hugli’s Blueberry Farm is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $11.95 plus HST on weekends (kids under two year are free), and $7.53 plus HST on weekdays. There is no charge for entry to the store.
Hugli’s is located at 2139 Greenwood Rd., Pembroke. Visit blueberryranch.ca or call 613-638-1288.
MILLER’S BAY FARM
Even though they have cancelled their “Fall Fun” event due to COVID-19 this year, it’s still worth visiting their roadside stand for their beautiful, well-displayed pumpkins, fall decor and a wide variety of vegetables.
Miller’s Bay Farm has corn stalks, straw bales, gourds, ornamental corn, mini-pumpkins, white pumpkins, pie pumpkins, as well as large and small pumpkins.
They also have a Bountiful Basket prepaid weekly food basket program, which is “a whole-season (15 weeks) subscription of locally grown, freshly picked, and lovingly packed, vegetables and fruits,” according to their website.
Miller’s Bay Farm is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The farm is located at 65 Rideau Ferry Rd., Lombardy. Visit millersbayfarm.com or call 613-283-0205.
