  • Earlier this season, The Voice coaches shared a nostalgic look back at their childhoods while chatting between Blind Auditions.

  • A new TikTok recap video shows Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, and John Legend recalling their more typical first jobs, while Nick Jonas' answer sparked plenty of laughter from his fellow coaches.

When you think of first jobs, images of neighborhood pools, grocery stores, restaurants, and ice cream shops likely come to mind. But for Nick Jonas, that simply wasn’t the case.

The Voice coaches offered viewers a glance into their childhoods earlier this season during the Blind Auditions. In a new clip posted to TikTok, Kelly Clarkson shared that her first gig was at a movie theater, where she made popcorn and worked in the box office. (The camera then pans over to Nick, who is ironically eating popcorn.) John Legend added that he worked at a music store polishing trumpet slides, and Blake told his fellow coaches that he worked as a roofer. (These sound like pretty normal occupations for future global superstars, right?)

When the coaches turn to Nick, he nonchalantly shares that his first job was on Broadway, at which point all three coaches start laughing at him.

Nick got his start on Broadway with a role in the holiday classic A Christmas Carol. Fittingly—given that he was just eight years old at the time—he played Tiny Tim. After his first role, Nick went on to perform in a handful of other Broadway productions, including Beauty and the Beast, Les Miserables, Annie Get Your Gun, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. He also played Kurt in the Paper Mill Playhouse production of The Sound of Music.

In other words, it appears the 27-year-old performer had a totally unique experience, much to the entertainment of his fellow coaches. (But let's face it—we're all thrilled to have an artist as talented as Nick starring on as many stages as possible!)

As for the other coaches, they had humble beginnings that clearly instilled beneficial real-life lessons that helped put them on the right track for success in the music industry. Nothing to laugh at there.
