The Voice UK's infamous Battle rounds commenced tonight (February 22), but it wasn't without some social media controversy.

Pitching singer Johannes Pietsch and three-piece band Evergreen against each other, will.i.am decided to give them Fleetwood Mac's track 'Songbird' to perform onstage.

You know... the raw, piano-centric heartbreaker from their iconic 1977 album Rumours?

However, silly old Will claimed this tune belonged to Eva Cassidy because it was featured on her 1988 posthumous compilation album, also called Songbird.

Coincidentally, this release also featured covers of 'Fields of Gold' by Sting and Curtis Mayfield's 'People Get Ready'.

The merciless world of Twitter soon caught on to Will's blunder, and the results were both pretty blunt, yet probably justified.

One unimpressed fan shared: "Christine McVie wrote Songbird for the Rumours album and Fleetwood Mac closed every single show with it until she left the group 21 years later."

"Very disappointed that a music show gets the credit for a song incorrect... Christine McVie, Fleetwood Mac wrote 'Songbird' not Eva Cassidy [angry emoji]," added another.

Below, you can find some more responses from disgruntled music fans who tuned in to tonight's episode.

In defence of the show, at least Johannes and Evergreen did the lyrics justice, and even received a standing ovation from the crowd for their joint efforts.

The Battle Rounds will continue next weekend.

The Voice UK continues next Saturday (February 29) at 8.30pm on ITV.
