Volunteer matchmaker program launched by UPEI student union

The University of Prince Edward Island student union has launched a matchmaker program of a different sort.

The volunteer list matches students with volunteering opportunities in the community.

Students complete a form that details their interest areas, such as social justice or animal welfare.

Organizations with a volunteering opportunity fill out a separate form.

Nathan Hood, the student union's vice-president of student life, said if there is a match students receive an email with details about the volunteering opportunity that they have matched with.

"You know, you have students that are from away, they are from off-Island," said Hood. "So they may not be as familiar with the community as people that live in Charlottetown. So it was all about making it more accessible to those students."

UPEI's Department of Information Technology Services and Systems helped get the project off the ground.
