On Wednesday afternoon, Patrick Brown was cleared to run for the leadership of the Ontario Progressive Conservatives.

Brown had previously held the role before he was forced to step down last month over allegations of sexual misconduct.

The 39-year-old has denied the allegations vehemently and said that elements of the accusations against him can be proven to be untrue.

The embattled politician was also criticized after Ontario PC Ontario MPP Randy Hillier called for an investigation into Patrick Brown’s personal finances. Hillier filed a complaint with Ontario’s integrity commissioner over allegations that the former Tory leader engaged in “dirty and crooked politics” that breached the province’s ethics rules. The MPP cited that he has “reasonable grounds” to believe Brown violated the Members’ Integrity Act by not properly declaring his income to pay for his house in Barrie, Ont.

Brown responded to the complaints against him calling them “imaginary” and “make-believe.”

The PCs will vote for their next leader between March 2 and March 8, with results to be announced on March 10.

In light of the controversy surrounding Patrick Brown, should he be allowed to continue his quest for Tory leadership?
