Vote: Do you think Oprah should run for president?
Oprah Winfrey delivered a powerhouse speech yesterday evening when she became the first black woman to be awarded the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes.
Her inspirational speech had the crowd on its feet with tears in their eyes multiple times as she congratulated women on their courage for speaking up and thanking men for listening. She finished her speech by telling girls that “a new day is on the horizon, and when that day finally dawns, it will be because a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time where nobody ever has to say me too. ”
Social media was quick to pick up on the seemingly presidential tones she evoked in her speech, with the hashtag #OprahForPresident and #Oprah2020 quickly spreading on Twitter. Although she said that she would not run, her partner, Stedman Graham, said this to the Los Angeles Times: “It’s up to the people. She would absolutely do it.”
