A series of vulgar tweets has cost a young woman her dream internship at NASA following an exchange with a former engineer of the space agency.
Naomi H landed the job on Tuesday and hours after tweeted her excitement, saying: “EVERYONE SHUT THE F*** UP. I GOT ACCEPTED FOR A NASA INTERNSHIP.”
Former NASA employee, Homer Hickam replied to Naomi’s tweet, suggesting she watch her “language”.
But Naomi appeared to have no idea who Mr Hickam was and sent a vulgar response.
“Suck my d*** and balls I’m working at NASA,” she wrote.
Mr Hickam responded to Naomi’s comment by informing her he was on the National Space Council that oversees NASA.
The post quickly went viral and Naomi reportedly lost her internship opportunity.

In a blog post that was found by Buzzfeed News that has since been deleted, Mr Hickam explained he was trying to help her and was not responsible for her losing the internship.
“I learned she had lost her offer for an internship with NASA. This I had nothing to do with nor could I since I do not hire and fire at the agency or have any say on employment whatsoever,” he wrote, Business Insider reported.
“As it turned out, it was due to the NASA hashtag her friends used that called the agency’s attention to it long after my comments were gone”.
Since the incident, Hickam said the pair had spoken privately about her future with NASA and saying she had apologised.
“She reached out to me with an unnecessary apology which I heartily accepted and returned with my own,” Hickam wrote. “After talking to her, I am certain she deserves a position in the aerospace industry and I’m doing all I can to secure her one that will be better than she lost.”
Naomi H has since changed her Twitter profile to private.
