A&W fundraiser supports MS research

Hamburger sales at A&W locations are supporting research to battle multiple sclerosis in Canada. The restaurant is sponsoring a one-day campaign called "Cruisin' to end MS".

It's the seventh annual fundraiser for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.

A&W's Avonhurst location in Regina has been the top fundraiser in the province and one of the best in the country in past campaigns.

The restaurant was visited Thursday by top people from the company and the MS Society.

"What's so amazing about Saskatchewan is [the campaign] started here and it just keeps getting better," Paul Hollands, head of A&W in Canada, said. "I've been here at this restaurant twice before for the same event because they've been leaders since the very beginning. And every year it just keeps getting better."

For each teen burger sold, the company is donating $1 to the MS Society.

Yves Savoie, CEO of the MS Society, noted Saskatchewan has one of the highest rates in Canada of the disease.

"There's absolutely no question in Saskatchewan, and on the prairies generally, because of the very high prevalence of MS, that there's a high level of awareness and people are really engaged," Savoie said.
