Wake County commissioner to resign to take position in Governor’s Office
The chairman of the Wake County Board of Commissioners intends to resign his post to take a position in newly-elected Gov. Josh Stein’s administration.
Matt Calabria has served on the Board of Commissioners for 10 years, the longest of any current members, and was named the chairman in December. He declined to state the position he’s taking in the Governor’s Office, but said an announcement would be made next week.
There are two years left in Calabria’s term. He is a registered Democrat, meaning his replacement will be nominated by the Wake County Democratic Party and then voted on by the Wake County commissioners.
Calabria was first elected in 2014, winning re-election in 2018, 2020 and 2022.
The News & Observer has contacted the Governor’s Office to ask about Calabria’s new position.
