Walkerton and District Hospital Foundation’s Moonlight Gala a virtual success

WALKERTON – Who said a virtual hospital gala can’t be both elegant and successful?

Due to gathering restrictions, the Walkerton and District Hospital Foundation held its most glamourous event the Moonlight Gala, virtually – a first for the event.

On June 4, beginning at 7 p.m., people gathered by households or in small groups of friends, to “attend” the 13th annual gala, “An Evening Under the Stars.”

Hayley Wilhelm, executive director of the Walkerton and District Hospital Foundation, said the gala exceeded all expectations.

“Just over 130 ‘guests’ joined us,” she said.

A total of $81,000 was raised, well over the $75,000 goal, she said.

As always, the silent auction was a huge hit – all 191 items were sold.

“It went really well,” Wilhelm said. “Overall, we’re very pleased.”

Funds raised will support the purchase of new equipment for departments throughout the Walkerton hospital. The tentative date for next year’s gala is Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the Cargill Community Centre.
