Walkerton Hawks earn another win

WALKERTON – The Hawks had a weekend of mixed results. After a disappointing 1-0 loss to Mount Forest on home ice Friday, Nov. 5, the Hawks travelled to the Zurich arena Saturday night and earned a 3-2 win over the Goderich Flyers.

Friday night, Caleb Cribbin scored for the Patriots on assists from Benjamin Tenhag and Derrick Cornfield in the first period. And that was it for scoring in the game.

The next night, Goderich got off to a good start only a minute into the game with a goal by Colton Quipp from Tyson Rintoul and Riley Kuepfer. Walkerton replied a few minutes later with a goal by Keegan Fischer from Connor Prins and Elliot McCarey. Goderich got into some penalty trouble later in the first period and the Hawks scored on the power play, Owen Tichbourne from Caleb Morrison and Prins. The Hawks made it 3-1 with a goal by Brayden Fischer from Kyle Durrer and Tichbourne.

Goderich came back in the third period with another goal by Quipp, on assists from Ethan Hewitt and Caden Beattie, but it was too little, too late.

The Hawks have a busy weekend ahead of them with three games. The first, on Friday, Nov. 12, is on home ice at 8:20 p.m. against Hanover. The next night the Hawks have an 8 p.m. game in Mount Forest. On Sunday, the Hawks travel to Wingham for a 7:30 p.m. game.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required to attend a Hawks game. You will be asked to show proof of vaccination along with a piece of photo identification, and will be required to list your name and phone number for contact tracing purposes.
